Armenia’s Pashinyan holds talks with European, Azerbaijani leaders

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has been busy meeting with various European leaders in an effort to strengthen diplomatic ties and discuss important issues facing the region.

On Thursday, Pashinyan met separately with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, French President Emmanuel Macron and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The meetings were held in Brussels, Belgium, as part of Pashinyan’s official visit to the European Union headquarters.

Pashinyan’s meeting with Metsola focused on the current situation in Armenia, particularly the recent parliamentary elections and ongoing reforms in the country. Metsola praised Pashinyan’s efforts in promoting democracy and expressed her support for his government’s agenda.

In his meeting with Macron, Pashinyan discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the recent ceasefire agreement signed by Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia. Macron reaffirmed France’s commitment to resolving the conflict and called for the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in a timely manner.

Pashinyan also met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, their first meeting since the signing of the ceasefire. The two leaders discussed the repatriation of prisoners of war and the return of refugees, as outlined in the ceasefire agreement. Pashinyan emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region and expressed his hope for a continued dialogue with Azerbaijan.

These meetings mark a significant step in Pashinyan’s efforts to strengthen Armenia’s relationships with European countries and to find peaceful solutions to regional issues. Pashinyan’s visit to Brussels also included meetings with other high-ranking officials, including European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The European Union has been a key partner for Armenia, providing support in areas such as economic development, democracy and human rights. Pashinyan’s meetings with European leaders reaffirm the close ties between Armenia and the EU and the mutual commitment to further cooperation and partnership.

In addition to discussing regional issues, Pashinyan also highlighted the progress made in Armenia’s domestic reforms, including the fight against corruption and the strengthening of democratic institutions. The European leaders praised these efforts and pledged continued support for Armenia’s development.

Pashinyan’s visit to Brussels also coincided with the launch of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which aims to deepen cooperation in various areas, including trade, energy, and education. This agreement further strengthens the relationship between the EU and Armenia and demonstrates the EU’s commitment to supporting Armenia’s development and stability.

The series of meetings with European leaders further solidify Armenia’s position as an important partner for the EU and a key player in the region. Pashinyan’s diplomatic efforts and commitment to reforms have received praise and support from the international community, showing the positive impact of his leadership on Armenia’s relations with other countries.

As Pashinyan continues to engage with leaders from around the world, it is clear that Armenia is committed to building strong partnerships and promoting peace and stability in the region. These meetings with European leaders demonstrate the mutual desire for cooperation and a shared vision for a prosperous future for Armenia and its people.
