Qatar’s Prime Minister Calls for Further Negotiations on Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

On Tuesday, Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, expressed his views on the newly unveiled Gaza peace plan by U.S. President Donald Trump. In a statement, the Prime Minister stated that while the plan is a step towards peace, it requires further clarifications and negotiations, particularly regarding Israel’s annexation of Palestinian territories.

The peace plan, also known as the “Deal of the Century,” was announced by President Trump on January 28th, alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The plan proposes a two-state solution, with a Palestinian state on the remaining 70% of the West Bank and parts of East Jerusalem, while Israel would retain control over the Jordan Valley and all of Jerusalem. It also includes a $50 billion economic plan to boost the Palestinian economy.

While the plan has been welcomed by Israel, it has been met with criticism and rejection by the Palestinian Authority, who were not consulted during the drafting process. The Arab League has also rejected the plan, stating that it does not meet the minimum rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people.

In his statement, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani emphasized the need for further negotiations to address the concerns of the Palestinian people. He stated, “We believe that any peace plan must be based on the principles of international law and relevant UN resolutions, and must take into account the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign state.”

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of addressing the issue of Israel’s annexation of Palestinian territories. He stated, “The issue of annexation must be addressed in a way that preserves the rights of the Palestinian people and ensures a just and lasting peace in the region.”

Qatar has long been a supporter of the Palestinian cause and has provided significant aid to the Palestinian people. The country has also played a key role in mediating between Israel and Hamas, the ruling party in Gaza. In his statement, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights.

The Prime Minister’s call for further negotiations and clarifications on the peace plan is a reflection of the concerns shared by many in the international community. The plan has been criticized for not addressing key issues such as the status of Jerusalem and the right of return for Palestinian refugees. It has also been seen as heavily favoring Israel and disregarding the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people.

In conclusion, Qatar’s Prime Minister has called for further negotiations and clarifications on the newly unveiled Gaza peace plan. While acknowledging it as a step towards peace, he emphasized the need to address the concerns of the Palestinian people and ensure a just and lasting solution. As the international community continues to analyze and discuss the plan, it is crucial that the voices and rights of the Palestinian people are not overlooked. Only through fair and inclusive negotiations can a lasting peace be achieved in the region.
